[North-NV-Greens] Green SEEDS conference

Christine Ervin, the former director of Oregon's 
Department of Energy, former Assistant Secretary 
of  Energy in the Clinton administration, and 
former President and CEO of the U.S. Green 
Building Council  will be the key note speaker at 
the inaugural Green SEEDS (Students and Educators 
for Environmental  Development and 
Sustainability) Conference.  UNR's SEEDS and 
Academy for the Environment are  hosting this 
conference to enlighten UNR students, educators, 
and administrators as well as the general  public 
about the advances in sustainable technologies 
and their application in the Nevada and 
northeastern  California region.    WHEN and 
WHERE:  Saturday, 16 April 2005, from 10am to 2pm 
in the Pine Lounge of the Jot Travis  Student 
Union building on the UNR campus.  Cost is FREE 
although donations will be accepted.    TARGET 
AUDIENCE: UNR students, educators, and 
administrators; also, the general public 
interested  in advances in sustainable 
technologies and policies.    FORMAT:  Educators, 
vendors, and students will present the state of 
the art in sustainable systems and  practices.

architectural design    passive solar 
active/photovoltaic solar systems 
biodiesel-fueled generators   Renewable energy 
systems     water systems 
landscaping/xeriscaping      graywater designs 
domestic water systems      waterless urinals

Biography for Christine Ervin    Christine 
Ervin's career as an environmental leader spans 
executive positions across national, state, and 
nonprofit sectors.  She  is widely credited for 
being a major force behind the vibrant green 
building market today.  As the President and CEO 
of the  U.S. Green Building Council, Christine 
Ervin led its growth from 200 members and three 
staff in 1999 to become a highly  influential 
coalition of 4,500 companies and organizations, 
50 staff, and 70 local chapters and affiliates. 
During her five-year  tenure, the Council's LEED® 
green building rating system became the defacto 
national standard for certified green buildings 
and professional accreditation.  She played a 
lead role in launching the Greenbuild 
international conference and expo which  drew 
more than 8,000 in 2004.  In the public arena, Ms 
Ervin was appointed by President Clinton to serve 
as Assistant  Secretary of Energy for the 
nation's $1 billion portfolio of clean energy 
technologies.  She also has directed the Oregon 
Department of Energy, overseen budget policy for 
the State of Missouri, and conducted policy 
analyses at The Conservation  Foundation/World 
Wildlife Fund.  Ms Ervin is currently writing a 
book on the role of voluntary market programs 
like LEED in  environmental policy.  She is a 
frequent speaker, advises companies and 
organizations on strategic initiatives, and 
serves on  numerous private and public boards.
