1. electing a new Executive Council. /Lane
2. Re GPUS delegates... Authorize them formally
Who are they ?
Executive council delegates SHOULD have the
freedom to speak for Nevada Greens at this time, as long as they make a
REASONABLE effort to try to contact or poll Nevada Greens, document all
responses, and especially in the 3 days before a vote. /Craig
3. When the Green Party of the United States Fundraising Committee became a
full time committee, a request was made for each state to submit a list of
three members to be contacts for the committee. Let's name them. /Paul E.
suggests Eva as one
4. Coordinated Campaign Committee, let's discuss the possibility.
The GPof the US Steering Committee is charged with appointment of members to
fill 10 vacancies on the Coordinated Campaign Committee, term March 10- July
22, when the Convention in Philadelphia elects a new committee. Application
deadline March 1.
If you're interested please send me, Charles, a note and I'll send you the
information and questions they ask.
As the functions will be of interest to us at the state level I'm including
them here. I suggest we address the issues at the meeting on the 26 Feb.
please translate to state and county relevance..
The Coordinated Campaign Committee (CCC) is a standing committee of the USGP
that cooperates with
state and local parties in the coordination and support of federal, state,
and local Green Party electoral
campaigns. Specific functions of the CCC include:
a) Tracking of Green Party candidates at all levels of government.
b) Facilitation of discussions regarding electoral strategy among state
parties.
c) Identification of target communities and districts for national support.
d) Support for candidate recruitment in targeted communities and districts.
e) Volunteer, media, celebrity, and resource mobilization for specific
candidacies in targeted communities and districts.
f) Training and materials support for Green Party candidates and activists.
g) Analysis of past campaigns for lessons learned.
h) State-by-state tracking of ballot status and laws.
i) Publication and distribution of an annual call for candidates.
j) Organization of a Green Party campaign school.
5. Candidates time to ask questions, offer comments.. What's a Party for?
+ACI-I would be willing to be the sacrificial victim in any interparty
agreement, and will stand for whatever statewide office we agree to ' /Paul
Lenart
6. State meetings and Nomination conventions.. participation..
To avoid unsolicited takeovers and other political backroom strategies there
has been discussion of how to qualify participants, but to my knowledge,
nothing acted upon. So I'd like a discussion of possibilities. Those
developed a year ago and which have been on the web site under Planning for
2002 are
Qualifications for Statewide Meeting participation -
either by:
Being registered to vote as a Green Party member, and
Having taken part in Green meetings, organizing and actions and
Being designated as a +ACI-delegate+ACI- from a county Party.
or by:
Signing a statement of affirmation of the KeyValues, -
Making an oath of affiliation -
Having a sign in (optional) sheet at each local and statewide meeting, which
becomes part of the GP meeting record would verify the second requirement.
or to issue some card and keep a file so active members need sign only once.
7. Considerations for Platform topic development
+AD4- Even as Congress passes sweeping anti-terrorism legislation that
+AD4- grants the federal government broader police powers, state legislatures
+AD4- are beginning to re-assess laws dealing with open records.
Today as we continue a war Bush described as +ACI-a task without end,+ACI- and we
prepare for secret tribunals with secret evidence, secret verdicts, and
secret suspects, it's clear that the founding fathers' concerns about
over-arching executive power were right on the mark. Yesterday the New York
Times reported that the Justice Department granted itself permission to
detain people even after an immigration judge grants them bail. /Chris Good
